Zero Waste Event Planning

Let us help make your next event cleaner and greener!  We can provide eco-friendly, third party certified compostable disposables for serving food and beverages - and we'll close the loop by keeping those compostable products out of the landfill!  We'll set up, maintain, and pick up bins at your event to collect food scraps, recyclables, and/or landfill waste, and we'll get those recoverable materials to our compost processor and recycling partner.  Contact us today to discuss your needs!

HOW MANY BINS DO I NEED?

We recommend at least .5 gallons of recycle/compost/trash bin capacity per guest (i.e., an event of 200 people would require at least 3 bins).  Keep in mind that if you are using compostable and recyclable disposables and your guests are aware of what waste goes where, you will require more recycle/compost bins than landfill bins, as the whole idea is to reduce landfill waste as much as possible!

HOW WILL GUESTS KNOW WHAT TO PUT WHERE?

We recommend educating guests about proper disposable of waste at the beginning of the event if practical, via the event’s social media pages, and email if you have contact information of attendees.  Let guests know that you are striving towards an environmentally friendly, zero waste event, and you would appreciate cooperation with the system you have put in place. Most people are used to putting napkins, paper plates, and plastic cups and bottles in the trash at public events.  While bins and bags are clearly labeled, education at the event about what goes where can go a long way towards ensuring that recoverable materials are not landfilled.

We also have customizable bulletin boards that we can place on the bins (see photo) to explain in pictures, based on what waste streams are anticipated at your event, what should and should not go in the bins.

WHY ARE THE TRASH BINS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THE RECYCLING AND COMPOST BINS?

Unfortunately, it is still the case that the cost for hauling waste to landfill is less than recycling or composting it.  We strive to keep our service as affordable as possible while covering our costs and paying our employees a living wage.

DO YOU HAVE AN ORDER MINIMUM?

Our minimum fee is $50.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE COST FOR ADDITIONAL BAGS?

The charge for additional bags also includes recovery (recyclables and compost) or disposal (landfill).  Also, additional bags require more employee labor, as well as transport space in our vehicles.  Our compost processor’s charges are based on volume, and any recycling volume that exceeds the capacity of our own facility’s bins must be taken to the recycling drop-off center.

HOW DO I INQUIRE ABOUT AND/OR BOOK SERVICES FOR MY EVENT DATE? DO I NEED TO PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT?

Send an email to info@pinkelephantproducts.com with the subject line ‘Zero Waste Event Services’.  We may require a $50 deposit to secure the date for large events.

IS YOUR COMPANY  LICENSED AND FULLY INSURED?

Yes.  If your event location requires a certificate of insurance from vendors and service providers, let us know - we can provide that.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE COST FOR ADDITIONAL BAGS?

The charge for additional bags also includes recovery (recyclables and compost) or disposal (landfill).  Also, additional bags require more employee labor, as well as transport space in our vehicles. Our compost processor’s charges are based on volume.

CAN YOUR STAFF REMAIN ON SITE TO CHANGE BAGS, CLEAN UP SPILLS, AND ENSURE RECYCLING AND COMPOSTABLE MATERIALS ARE GETTING INTO THE RIGHT BINS AND NOT THE TRASH?

Yes!  The cost for our staff to remain on-site during the event is $20 per hour.

ATTENTION SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS!

Looking to reduce or eliminate the costs of sustainable waste management at your event? Consider asking your event sponsors to fund it!  We can professionally print your sponsor’s logo, website and social media information,

or other information on the billboards attached to the bins.  Guaranteed high visibility, as every

event attendee will eventually use the bins! Waste management sponsorship is an excellent

opportunity for corporate sponsors to ‘walk the talk’ and concretely demonstrate their

commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.  Call us to discuss pricing

and lead time.

NEED COMPOSTABLE DISPOSABLES FOR YOUR EVENT?

The most eco-friendly food packaging for events is reusable and washable.  However, we understand that isn’t always feasible or practical for all events.  We can provide unbeatable pricing on third-party certified compostable cups, napkins, plates, and more.  Pricing per unit varies based on quantity ordered.  Contact us to discuss your event needs!

Did you know? A head of lettuce can take up to 25 years to break down in a landfill!  There’s a common misperception that it’s okay to throw away compostables because they’ll biodegrade in the landfill.  If you’re taking the time, effort, and expense to provide compostable disposables at your event, ensure that you’re getting them composted properly and not landfilling them. We can help!  (Note that unfortunately, most compostable disposables CANNOT be composted in backyard bins).
